Trilogy Records and Inner Music announce the release
of
"The Dream"
The new CD by Steve Holt.
Toronto, August 21 – Trilogy Records and Inner Music announced
today the long-awaited release of "The Dream", the new album
by Steve Holt. It is the first album in the pop/rock genre by the artist
who had previously been known as one of Canada’s great jazz pianists
and composers. "The Dream" features Steve as a vocalist and
songwriter, as well as pianist.
A seasoned musician with a prodigious history, Montreal-born Steve Holt
is a Juno award nominee with 5 albums to his credit. With his new album,
The Dream, Steve has crossed over into mainstream pop-rock music. The
CD was produced by acclaimed engineer/producer Darius
Szczepaniak (Barenaked Ladies, Jann Arden, Chantal Kreviazuk).
Steve studied music at McGill University and graduated with distinction
as McGill's first-ever Bachelor of Music majoring in Jazz performance.
He began his professional career playing Jazz clubs in Quebec and then
relocated to Toronto several years later. In addition to his musical endeavors,
Steve became a top-ranked Bay Street analyst and chalked up more than
15 years of senior analytical experience with major Canadian investment
firms, specializing in entertainment and consumer related companies. But
in 1999 Steve decided to walk away from Bay Street to pursue a life-long
desire to write and perform pop/rock music. In April 2002, the first single
from the album was released. “We Need You,” a plea for tolerance
and understanding in a confusing world, achieved a great deal of success
at radio, in particular in the province of Quebec, and Steve is hoping
that "The Dream" will strike a similar chord in the hearts of
listeners.
As Steve says, "The making of The Dream
was like nothing I'd ever attempted. Over a period of many months, songs
were written and re-written. Tracks were recorded. Slowly, like some sleepy
giant, the album began to take its shape. There was real, palpable magic
surrounding the project. The musicians - most of whom I had never met
- they could feel it. The recording engineers could feel it. We all knew
something remarkable was happening to all of us. It was as if all who
touched this project received some kind of magical gift. Really."
