The Bluebird Café, Nashville TN
We've all been there. In every life there come those moments of such enormous truth and decision when the enlightenment of that experience reveals itself with such power and clarity that some small trigger will immediately transport us back there. JUNO award winning jazz pianist, Canadian Steve Holt, performed at Nashville's world-famous Bluebird Cafe on Wednesday evening with the harnessed intensity of someone who has truly lived and survived many such moments. His control over the keyboard obviously comes from a lifetime of devotion to his craft and the evidence is clear that he is truly a master.
Performing with Steve in the Round were other winners of the USA Songwriting Competition, Dan Pelletier, Amelia White and Amy Steinberg. Steve had won in the Latin category of one of the biggest songwriting competitions in the world....though none of the music he performed at the Bluebird was of the Latin genre. Instead his selection of songs seemed edgier, bordering much of the time on something intimately spiritual. Steve shared with the audience pieces of his dream...and in turn, helped each of us touch some of the fragments of our own.
I certainly hope Steve continues to dream and to share it with listeners. He
truly creates magic with his gift. |
